Biofuels are among the most promising replacement for non-renewable fossil fuel. They could help us reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, which would lead to a decline in greenhouse gas emissions and help us face the twin challenges of energy security and climate change.
June 2009, Dr. Dirks retired from the position of BP China President, waving goodbye to all the colleagues that he¡¯s worked with for the past fourteen years and set off for a new journey in his life. Over the past fourteen years, Dr. Dirks witnessed the solid economic growth in China and also the expansion of BP¡¯s activities in China. As he waved goodbye, he said, ¡°It has been an extraordinary privilege to have lived and worked here during these most eventful years.¡± This article gives insight into the ten-year-long Environmental Educators¡¯ Initiative (EEI), which was jointly launched in July 1997 by the Ministry of Education of China, the world¡¯s largest non-governmental environmental organization, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the world¡¯s leading energy company, BP, to promote environmental education and popularize sustainable development in primary and secondary schools in China.
